Quick take

A high-speed baitcasting reel with an 8.1:1 gear ratio and 10 ball bearings for both freshwater and saltwater casting.

The Metanium XG Right is a compact right-handed low-profile baitcasting reel with an 8.1:1 gear ratio, so each turn of the handle pulls in about 34 inches of line. It weighs around 6 oz and has a magnesium frame, a super duralumin spool and 10 ball bearings plus one roller bearing. Maximum drag is 11 lb, and the spool holds 12 lb line at 100 m up to 20 lb line at 65 m, which suits anglers who want a light, fast-retrieve reel for bass and similar freshwater work.

Best for

Bass and pike fishing with faster retrieves
Saltwater inshore and nearshore applications
Casting accuracy with heavy lures and baits

Skip if

You prefer spinning reels
You need a slower gear ratio for topwater

Strengths

10 ball bearings provide smooth, durable operation

Trade-offs
