Quick take

A mid-size spinning reel with sealed construction for fishing in both freshwater and inshore saltwater.

The Shimano Nasci 4000XG FC is a size 4000 spinning reel with a 6.2:1 gear ratio, built for freshwater and inshore saltwater work. It pairs cold-forged HAGANE gears and CoreProtect sealing with a G-Free Body that sits the balance point closer to the rod. With braided line capacity and a drag that tops out at 24 pounds, it suits anglers who want one mid-size spinning reel for bass, walleye or light inshore trips.

Best for

  • General freshwater spinning with light to medium lures
  • Inshore saltwater fishing where corrosion resistance matters
  • Anglers wanting smooth, low-vibration retrieves

Skip if

  • You need a reel for heavy saltwater environments
  • You fish large lures that need power

Strengths

  • HAGANE gear technology increases durability with minimal vibration
  • CoreProtect sealing resists water without adding rotational resistance
  • G-Free body design balances weight and stiffness

Trade-offs

  • Sealed construction may be harder to service than open designs
  • Mid-size limits line capacity for long-distance saltwater casting
  • Cross Carbon drag available only on larger sizes
