Quick take

Saltwater spinning reel built with HAGANE sealed body and CoreProtect water resistance for offshore and inshore fishing.

This is a size 4000 saltwater spinning reel with a high 6.2:1 gear ratio, so it picks line up quickly. A metal body and gear set, CoreProtect water resistance and a two-speed oscillation system suit it to surf, pier and inshore work. It holds 10 lb mono at 200 yards and pulls up to 20 lb of drag, and it works for either hand.

Best for

  • Saltwater offshore fishing
  • High-speed retrieves on jigging and casting
  • Conditions requiring sealed bearings

Skip if

  • You fish exclusively in freshwater
  • You need an ultra-compact reel for light line

Strengths

  • HAGANE body resists saltwater corrosion
  • CoreProtect sealing keeps water out of gears
  • X-Ship bearing support reduces line twist on fast retrieves

Trade-offs

  • Larger and heavier than freshwater reels of comparable line capacity
  • Sealed bearings are harder to service than standard bearings
  • Requires regular maintenance after saltwater use
