Quick take

A lightweight drop-frame rubber mesh landing net for freshwater bass and similar species.

This is a green rubber-mesh landing net from SMITH with a 14.2 by 18.1 inch hoop and a 24.4 inch handle. The rubber mesh suits bass-style freshwater fishing, and the whole net weighs about 400 grams. It is a compact, lightweight pick for an angler who wants a simple net to bring a fish in at the bank or boat.

Best for

  • Wading and bank fishing for bass
  • Careful catch-and-release practices
  • Freshwater fishing where light weight is valued

Skip if

  • You boat fish in saltwater
  • You need a large capacity net

Strengths

  • Rubber mesh is gentle on fish fins and scales
  • Drop frame design allows easy one-handed net placement
  • Lightweight handle reduces fatigue on long days

Trade-offs
