Quick take
A lightweight plastic fish gripper that floats when dropped in water, with soft jaws to minimize fish injury.
This 7.5-inch plastic lip gripper floats if it slips overboard, which suits kayak, jon boat and bank fishing. The jaw is smooth rather than serrated and is meant for fish from bass up to catfish, with one-handed open and close. A 9-inch lanyard goes around the wrist, and the whole tool weighs about 2 ounces.
Best for
- Kayak and small boat fishing where lost tools are risky
- Catch and release fishing where fish safety matters
- Minimizing hand contact with fish during photos
Skip if
- You need to weigh fish without removing the gripper
Strengths
- Floats when dropped overboard, preventing loss
- Soft jaw design prevents mouth damage on catch-and-release fish
- Lightweight plastic reduces fatigue on long fishing days
Trade-offs
- Plastic construction is not as durable as aluminum or metal grippers after many uses
- Jaw strength is limited to moderate-size fish, not trophy catches
Fishing fit
- Water
- Freshwater
- Saltwater
