Quick take

Four-piece 9-foot carbon fly rod in two line weights, compact for travel yet versatile for freshwater and light saltwater fly fishing.

This is a 9 ft fly rod that splits into four sections, so it packs down short enough for a travel bag or a pack. It has a carbon fiber blank with a fast action and a cork handle, and it matches a 5/6 weight fly line. It suits anglers fishing trout, bass or carp in freshwater who want a straightforward rod for the water.

Best for

  • Fly fishing for trout in small to medium rivers
  • Bass and panfish on flies and poppers
  • Anglers who want a rod that breaks down for backpack travel

Skip if

  • You need specialized saltwater equipment for big game

Strengths

  • IM8 carbon provides good sensitivity and castability
  • 4-piece design packs into a compact bundle for travel
  • Titanium oxide guides are smooth and durable

Trade-offs

  • 4-piece design takes time to assemble before each session
  • 9 ft is midrange, not specialized for creeks or large rivers
  • Only two line weight options limits versatility
