Quick take

A round wire mesh fish basket with chrome plating, designed to safely store and carry caught fish while keeping them cool and aerated throughout the day.

This South Bend round wire basket is about 13 inches across and 18 inches deep, built from chrome-plated mesh wire. It has reinforced hinges and a bottom ring, with spring doors at the top and bottom. It suits shore, dock or boat anglers who want to keep a few caught fish in the water until they head in.

Best for

  • Shore and bank fishing where a stringer is impractical
  • Keeping live fish fresh for delayed cleaning or eating
  • Kayak and small boat fishing with limited space

Skip if

  • You plan to release all fish
  • You need a portable system for hiking distance

Strengths

  • Chrome plating resists rust in saltwater environments
  • Open mesh design allows water flow to keep fish aerated and cool
  • Round shape and handle make carrying multiple caught fish convenient

Trade-offs

  • Large basket dimensions and weight make transport awkward
  • Wire mesh may damage delicate fish or small species
  • Not suitable for fish you plan to release carefully
