Quick take
A 5-inch multi-purpose fishing plier with spring-loaded jaw for hook removal and line cutting.
A compact 5-inch pair of pistol-grip pliers built around spring-loaded jaws, so one hand can open a split ring, crimp split shot or snip mono and wire. The carbon steel body has a Teflon surface and PVC-covered handles with a textured grip. It suits anglers who want a small tool in the tackle bag for swapping hooks on lures and unhooking small fish.
Best for
- Removing hooks from small fish quickly and safely
- Opening split rings to change terminal tackle
- Crimping split shot and building leaders
Skip if
- You fish only catch-and-release without handling
- You need pliers for large saltwater catfish
Strengths
- Spring-loaded jaws allow one-hand operation
- Teflon coating reduces corrosion from saltwater
- Compact size fits easily in tackle box
Trade-offs
- 5-inch length limits jaw leverage for large fish
- Carbon steel still requires rinsing after saltwater use
- Spring mechanism can weaken with heavy use
Fishing fit
- Water
- Freshwater
- Saltwater
