Quick take
Fifteen cards of tinsel chenille totaling 75 meters for tying nymphs, body decorating and fly construction.
This is a fly tying assortment of multicolor tinsel and chenille on cards, in the 15-card, 75-meter version. The material runs about 7 mm to 1 cm wide and suits nymph, scud and streamer bodies as well as general fly decoration. It gives a tyer a wide spread of colors to pull from without buying spools one at a time.
Best for
- Building tungsten nymphs and perdigon patterns
- Adding body ribbing to streamers and wet flies
- Fly tyers creating bug bodies with flash
Skip if
- You tie primarily dry flies without body bulk
- You need single-color consistency across large projects
Strengths
- Assorted colors provide options for matching local insects
- Tinsel adds flash to attract fish in low-light conditions
- 15 cards offer enough material for many flies
Trade-offs
- Tinsel can be fragile during tying if wrapped too tight
- Some patterns require different materials like dubbed bodies
- Chenille bulk makes certain bodies thicker than desired
