Quick take
A rubber-mesh net with sapele wood handle designed for landing trout without damaging flies or leader.
This is a wood-frame fly fishing landing net in a natural finish, with a rubber net bag and a net area of about 20 by 10.2 inches. The rubber bag is meant to blend in underwater and to avoid catching hooks, which suits anglers landing trout. It weighs about a pound, so it is easy to carry streamside.
Best for
- Fly fishing for trout in streams and rivers
- Keeping fish calm during landing
- Light and portable fly fishing trips
Skip if
- You fish heavy saltwater species
- You need a net large enough for pike or stripers
Strengths
- Rubber mesh does not snag flies or damage fish skin
- Rubber vanishes underwater to avoid spooking fish
- Sapele wood is durable and similar to mahogany
Trade-offs
- Designed specifically for trout, not suitable for large species
- Rubber mesh deteriorates faster than nylon if not cleaned and dried
- The 23.6 in total length limits reach and may not work from high banks
