Quick take

An 8 foot 2-piece catfish casting rod with Ugly Tech construction, Ugly Stik Clear Tip design, and EVA grips with gimbal.

This 8-foot, two-piece casting rod is built for catfish, with medium-heavy power and a moderate-fast action. It handles 15 to 30 pound line and lures from half an ounce to three ounces. The two-piece blank breaks down for easier transport, and the rubber gimbal helps it sit steady in a rod holder.

Best for

  • Channel and flathead catfish on live bait or chicken liver
  • Heavy cover and structure fishing for big catfish
  • Rod and reel combos for trophy catfish fishing

Skip if

  • You target small panfish; this rod is overpowered
  • You want a one-piece rod; consider 7 ft alternative

Strengths

  • Ugly Tech construction provides durability in rough conditions
  • Clear Tip tip design improves sensitivity despite power
  • 8 ft length enables long, powerful casts with heavy rigs

Trade-offs

  • Two pieces assemble with friction fit; may separate under load
  • Medium-heavy power limits finesse presentations
  • EVA grips absorb water and odor over seasons
