Quick take
A holographic tinsel that adds sparkle and texture to flies, available in small, medium, and large widths.
Veevus Holographic Tinsel in black, large size, is a flat, reflective tinsel for fly tying. The 1/16 inch width wraps into a bold body or rib, and it also works as an underwing or as flash on a streamer. Tiers building nymphs, streamers and midges can add shine and texture with a single spool.
Best for
- Adding flash to streamer underwings
- Creating realistic fly bodies
- Building flashy saltwater patterns
Skip if
- You prefer dull or natural-finish flies
- You need traditional dubbing instead of tinsel
Strengths
- Holographic effect catches light and attracts fish
- Available in multiple widths for different fly sizes
- Consistent quality with more material per spool than most brands
Trade-offs
- Tinsel can catch on rod guides during casting
- Holographic finish may fade with extended use
- Requires practice to wrap neatly
