Quick take
Small 4X strong treble hook with black nickel finish for custom plugs and lure replacement.
VMC O'Shaughnessy treble hooks in size 6 come in a 25-pack with a black finish and a closed eye. They are made from high carbon steel with a needle point, which suits anglers rigging custom plugs or replacing the trebles on a bass lure. The closed eye pairs well with a heavy split ring for swapping hooks on a crankbait or topwater lure.
Best for
- Custom lure assembly and modifications
- Replacement hooks on worn or broken plugs
- Light-tackle freshwater fishing
Skip if
- You target saltwater species demanding larger hooks
- You fish heavy cover where trebles snag constantly
Strengths
- 4X wire rating is 20% stronger than standard hooks for the size
- Needle point penetrates efficiently on solid strikes
- Black nickel finish resists corrosion better than bronze
Trade-offs
- Size 6 limits use to small to mid-size fish
- Three-point design snags cover; requires careful retrieval
- Trebles on plugs reduce hooking efficiency compared to single hooks
Fishing fit
- Water
- Freshwater
- Saltwater
