Quick take
A complete 7-piece fly fishing kit with 5-weight rod, reel, floating line and case, designed for beginners and travel.
This is a complete fly fishing outfit built around a 9 ft, 7-piece, 5-weight rod that breaks down small enough to travel in the included 21.5-inch hard tube case. The reel comes spooled with floating line, backing and a tapered leader, and a waterproof fly box, nine flies and basic tools round out the kit. It suits anglers learning to cast on streams, rivers, lakes and ponds for trout, panfish and small bass.
Best for
- Fly fishing beginners with streams, rivers, lakes and ponds
- Catching trout, panfish and small bass on flies
- Travel and backpacking where a lightweight kit is needed
Skip if
- You fish saltwater or large rivers requiring heavier rods
- You already have fly gear and need just a replacement rod
Strengths
- Complete kit includes everything needed to start fly fishing
- Lightweight at 4 oz makes it ideal for backpacking
- Includes waterproof fly box and accessories like nippers and leaders
Trade-offs
- 5-weight is limited for large fish or strong current
- 7-piece construction means more assembly and potential connection issues
