Quick take
Mesh netting for wrapping fish eggs, cut bait, or soft baits into rigs for bottom fishing.
This is a two-roll set of white gauze spawn netting, each roll about 3 inches wide and 157.5 inches long. Anglers cut it into squares, fill it with roe, cut bait or liver, and tie it off to make bait sacs. The light, foldable rolls pack easily into a tackle box or backpack, which suits catfish and drift fishing trips.
Best for
- Salmon and steelhead egg fishing
- Catfish bottom rigs with cut bait
- Baitfish imitation on slack-line presentations
Skip if
- You use barbless hooks exclusively; wrapped bait retains the hook longer
- You fish heavy current; wrapped bait breaks free easily
Strengths
- Thin gauze allows bait scent to disperse quickly into the water
- Two long rolls give plenty of material to cut and tie multiple rigs
- Easy to cut into custom sizes and shapes for any bait type
Trade-offs
- Gauze tears if hooked on snags; not ideal for rocky bottom
- Mesh dissolves or degrades after several hours in the water
- Requires tying and wrapping; takes practice to do efficiently
