Quick take
A dense soft jerkbait with a heavy tail, designed to sink and stay underwater when worked aggressively.
The Yamamoto D-Shad is a 5-inch soft plastic jerkbait that comes seven to a pack. Its heavier tail and molded-in weight let it be worked fast below the surface and then fall level with a wobble when paused. Rig it weightless for twitching or on a Carolina rig to cover the water column.
Best for
- Fast below-surface presentations on bass
- Drop-shot rigging with slow falls
- Vertical jigging where weight is needed
Skip if
- You need a slow-sinking weightless presentation
- You fish shallow water with topwater
Strengths
- Molded-in weight sinks fast, eliminating sinker mess
- Heavy tail adds thump and vibration when worked
- Durable plastic holds up to aggressive jerking
Trade-offs
- Not suitable for weightless rigging despite soft plastic
- Thick construction limits casting distance
- Effective primarily for bass; not versatile across species

About this type
A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.
Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.
Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
