Quick take

A 5 in soft plastic jerkbait with a heavy tail and molded weight for aggressive twitching action or slow sinking pauses.

The Yamamoto D-Shad is a 5-inch soft plastic jerkbait with a streamlined body and a thick, heavy tail. It is denser than a typical soft jerkbait, so it stays down when worked fast, and it sinks level with a shimmy when paused. This 7-pack in Smoke Shad suits anglers who want to cover the water column with one bait.

Best for

  • Bass that want fast retrieves in open water
  • Anglers who want a sinking jerkbait instead of a floater

Skip if

  • You need a jerkbait that floats at rest
  • You fish shallow water under 3 ft

Strengths

  • Molded weight lets you fish the whole water column and slow-sink
  • Heavy tail creates shimmy and movement even on slow retrieves
  • Density keeps the bait down when worked aggressively

Trade-offs

  • Soft plastic is easily damaged by rocks or shells
  • Heavy tail can be tiring to work on light rods
  • 7 baits run out quickly if you're fishing rocky bottom

About this type

A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.

Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.

Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
