Quick take

A 5-inch soft plastic grub with dual tails and free-flowing tentacles for rolling action on football jigs.

The Yamamoto Double Tail Hula Grub is a 5-inch soft plastic grub sold in packs of 10, in a green pumpkin with large black flake finish. It pairs a double-tail grub end with a Senko-style body and rubber tentacles, and it can be rigged on a jighead, a Texas rig or a Carolina rig. It suits bass anglers who want a bait that stays near the bottom around rocky cover.

Best for

  • Deep water on football jigheads
  • Cold water walleye and panfish
  • Shallow finesse presentations on light jigs

Skip if

  • You need a compact profile for small mouths
  • You fish only topwater techniques

Strengths

  • Double tail and tentacle configuration creates rolling action
  • Salt impregnation keeps fish holding longer

Trade-offs

  • 5-inch size too large for small fish and finesse rigs
  • Tends to slide off jigheads over extended use
  • Green pumpkin color less effective in clear water

About this type

A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.

Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.

Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
