Quick take

Five-inch soft plastic grubs with a pulsating tail action, rigged on jigheads or used as trailers on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.

Best for

  • Jig fishing for bass and pike
  • Spinnerbait and buzzbait trailers
  • Cold-water fishing

Skip if

  • You prefer hard baits
  • You fish clear water where soft plastics spook fish

Strengths

  • Super soft material entices strikes even in cold water
  • Tail curl creates natural action on pause
  • Versatile: work alone on jigs or as trailers

Trade-offs

  • Soft plastic tears easily in heavy cover
  • Pack size may be excessive for slow-fishing anglers
  • Green Pumpkin color limits versatility

About this type

A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.

Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.

Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
