Quick take
A medium-power spinning rod matched to 8-12 lb line for walleye and mid-size bass.
This Zebco Z-Cast is a 6-foot, two-piece spinning rod with medium power and a fiberglass blank. It has a split EVA grip and a twist-lock reel seat, and it matches up with 8 to 12 pound line and lures from 1/4 to 3/8 ounce. That range suits bass and walleye, and the simple build makes it a friendly pick for newer anglers.
Best for
- Walleye on spinners and minnow lures
- Bass on spinnerbaits and crankbaits
- Moderate-speed topwater presentations
Skip if
- You fish finesse techniques; a light-power rod is more sensitive
- You need extra casting distance; a 6'6" rod is longer
Strengths
- Z-Glass provides durability and forgiving action for hook setting
- Balanced blank reduces fatigue on full days of casting
- Twist-lock reel seat keeps the reel secure during hard fighting
Trade-offs
- Fiberglass is heavier and less responsive than graphite
- The medium power limits it to mid-size baits and lures
- At 6', the rod does not cast as far as longer models
