Quick take
A pair of collapsible mesh traps for catching minnows, crawfish, shrimp, and small crabs.
This is a pair of collapsible round bait traps with a nylon mesh body over a stainless steel wire frame. Each opens to about 11.8 inches across and 23.6 inches tall, and a zipper lets you empty the catch without reaching through the entrance. They fold down for a pack or tackle bag, which suits anglers collecting minnows, shrimp, crayfish or small crabs for bait.
Best for
- Collecting live bait for larger game fish
- Crawfish and crayfish trapping in streams and ponds
- Shrimping in shallow saltwater flats
Skip if
- You need traps larger than 11.8 inches
- You cannot visit the trap regularly; trapped bait dies if left unattended
Strengths
- Double-layer nylon mesh is resistant to puncture and tears from thrashing bait
- Zipper design extracts caught prey without forcing it through the entrance
- Collapsible frame takes up minimal space when not in use
Trade-offs
- Mesh openings allow bait to escape if the trap sits for hours
- Stainless steel frame adds weight despite the foldable design
- Traps catch all small creatures, not just the species you want
