Quick take
A compact low-profile baitcasting reel with graphite frame, 6.4:1 gear ratio and MagTrax brake system for control.
A low profile baitcasting reel with a graphite frame and sideplates and a machined aluminum spool, weighing 7.4 oz. It has a 6.4:1 gear ratio that picks up about 25 inches of line per crank, a brass main gear and a MagTrax brake for steadier casts. Five bearings and a star drag topping out at 15 lb make it a fit for anglers stepping up to baitcasting with mono or braid. This one is the left-hand retrieve version.
Best for
- Casting heavy lures and baits for bass and pike
- Anglers learning baitcasting who want a forgiving brake system
- Situations where low-profile design keeps rod and reel balanced
Skip if
- You need a very high gear ratio for fast retrieves
- You fish light finesse lures; smaller reels are better
Strengths
- Graphite frame keeps weight down to 7.4 oz
- MagTrax brake provides consistent pressure across the entire cast
- 4 stainless steel bearings ensure smooth operation
Trade-offs
- 15 lb max drag limits use with large saltwater species
- Low-profile design fits fewer rod types than round reels
- Requires practice to cast without backlashes
