Quick take

A 9 foot medium-power rod with IM8 carbon construction for salmon and steelhead in rivers.

Best for

  • Salmon and steelhead in rivers and coastal streams
  • Long-range casting with medium lures and spoons
  • Intermediate anglers moving up from shorter rods

Skip if

  • You fish small streams; too long and powerful
  • You need a rod for panfish and sunfish

Strengths

  • 9 feet reaches distance across wide rivers
  • IM8 carbon is light and sensitive without sacrificing durability
  • Fast action helps with setting hooks on long casts

Trade-offs

  • 9 feet is long; difficult to manage in tight brush
  • Medium power is firm; not ideal for delicate techniques
