Quick take
A mechanical spring scale with anodized aluminum body and peak-weight recording slider for weighing fish to 50 lb.
This is a compact mechanical tube scale with an aluminum body and a stainless steel spring and hook, reading up to 50 pounds (22 kg). A plastic slider holds the peak reading, and a knob at the bottom zeroes it before you weigh. It suits anglers who want a simple, battery-free way to weigh a catch or check line and drag tension.
Best for
- Weighing fish at the end of a trip
- Comparing catches between outings
- Measuring tensile strength of tackle
Skip if
- You need to display weights on a digital screen
- You weigh fish larger than 50 lb
Strengths
- Anodized aluminum resists rust in saltwater
- Peak-weight recording slider holds the highest weight
- Stainless steel spring withstands repeated use
Trade-offs
- Mechanical display harder to read in low light than digital
- Must reset slider manually after each use
- Spring can lose calibration over time with rough handling
