Quick take

Extra-long-shank Aberdeen hooks in 12 sizes with an offset design for rigging live bait.

The Dr.Fish Aberdeen hook in size #8 comes in a 100 pack with an extra long shank suited to prawns, nippers, whitebait and strip baits. Its bronze carbon steel body has a barbed point and a finely ground eye, and it works for crappie, walleye and panfish. The long shank is a feature of the Aberdeen pattern, which is easy to thread and easy to unhook.

Best for

  • Live baitfishing with worms and small fish
  • Float-rigged bait in freshwater and saltwater
  • General purpose bait fishing

Skip if

  • You fish with artificial lures
  • You need circle hooks for catch-and-release

Strengths

  • Extra-long shank keeps soft bait secure on the hook
  • Offset point improves hook-up rate when the fish turns
  • Wide size range covers most small-to-medium baits

Trade-offs

  • Light-wire Aberdeen hooks can bend on large fish or heavy structure
  • Bronze finish corrodes quickly in saltwater; freshwater storage preferred
  • Not designed for treble-hook techniques or heavy lures
