Quick take

Three corrosion-resistant tools for handling fish and tackle in freshwater or saltwater conditions.

A three-piece pocket kit for handling fish at the water: a stainless steel lip gripper, 7-inch aluminum pliers with a sheath, and a spring-action hook remover. The metal parts suit both freshwater and saltwater trips, and the whole set weighs about 1.1 pounds. A coiled lanyard with a clip ties off to a vest or belt so the tools stay close and out of the water.

Best for

  • Removing hooks quickly without injury
  • Landing and gripping fish safely
  • Versatile freshwater and saltwater fishing

Skip if

  • You want a specialized single-purpose tool
  • You prefer grip tools without additional accessories

Strengths

  • Stainless steel and aluminum resist rust in saltwater
  • Coiled lanyard with clip keeps tools attached to vest or belt
  • Ergonomic handles suit both right and left hand operation

Trade-offs

  • A dedicated hook remover may be more effective for deeply set hooks
  • Multi-tool design means none specializes for one task
  • Lighter-duty option than professional-grade pliers
