Quick take
High-quality torsion-straightened leader wire sized for trolling and offshore applications.
Malin's 80 pound stainless leader is a single strand wire measuring .018 inch across, a size suited to trolling and wire rigs. It comes in a dark coffee finish that is treated, or in a bright finish that is left untreated. A 42 foot coil supplies enough wire to build several rigs.
Best for
- Saltwater trolling rigs
- Large saltwater species
- Wire-leader setups
Skip if
- You prefer monofilament or fluorocarbon leaders
- You fish freshwater exclusively
Strengths
- Torsion straightening provides nearly invisible presentation
- Resists kinking and maintains shape
- Available in coffee color for light refraction
Trade-offs
- Stainless steel is stiffer than mono, affecting lure action slightly
- Not ideal for species that bite through leader material
- Requires crimps or knots for attachment

- Water
- Saltwater
