Quick take

Buoyant unrigged soft plastic shrimp with rounded tentacles that stand up on the bottom and attract trout and panfish.

Z-Man's EZ ShrimpZ in a 3.5 inch length is an unrigged shrimp imitation sold four to a pack, with a segmented body and thin appendages that quiver as it moves. It can be fished on a jighead for open water or weedless for structure, and its natural color suits anglers who want a subtle shrimp profile.

Best for

  • Drop-shot rigging with small jigheads
  • Trout and panfish on light line
  • Pairing with tube or finesse jigging

Skip if

  • You need rigged lures ready to cast
  • You fish large topwater presentations

Strengths

  • Rounded tentacles increase action and reduce sticking
  • ElaZtech material is durable and holds bait keepers without damage
  • Salt impregnation aids in natural descent and mimics real shrimp

Trade-offs

  • Unrigged; requires separate jighead purchase
  • Buoyancy can be too light for deep presentations
  • Requires proper rigging knowledge to use effectively

About this type

A lure is an artificial bait that draws a strike with its shape, color and movement.

Each kind is built for certain depths and ways of fishing.

Weight decides how far a lure casts and what rod and line it needs; color changes how visible it is in the water.
